Wilsthorpe School

Wilsthorpe School is a large educational building consisting of a simple steel work construction. Large roof spans exist in open areas of the structure resulting in truss members.

Deerness SEDL were approached to carry out primary joint designs including braced bays, moment connections, simple beam to beam and beam to column joints. In addition to this, all nodes of the large span trusses were designed. Temporary stability of the structure during placement of the PC planks and resulting eccentric loading were also to be considered. Models were created to represent this loading scenario and establish locations of temporary bracing as required. This was further complicated by the phased construction in which areas of steel work could not benefit from permanent bracing.
